Unique Characteristics

  • Through the "Plan Process," each student designs his or her own education with ongoing attention from a committee of faculty advisors
  • Field Work Term, an annual, seven-week internship period, allows students to pursue jobs and internships that complement their studies, so that each graduates with a resume as well as diploma
  • The teacher-practitioner model of teaching means that all faculty members are actively practicing in their fields
  • The Center for the Advancement of Public Action (CAPA), a $20 million academic facility, invites students to study the world's most pressing problems, confront what it means to make lasting change on any one of them, and to make that the focus of their academic work
  • The 120,000 square-foot Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) building, open 24-hours, houses studios, classrooms, performance spaces, and galleries
  • Quantum Leap is an innovative mentorship program which aims to reengage local at-risk youths with their educations
  • The Bennington College Mediation Clinic (BCMC) provides free mediation services to benefit local communities and to promote the use of mediation for peaceful and productive dispute resolution, while also educating undergraduate students in effective conflict resolution techniques through observation of actual mediations
  • Offers a nationally recognized low-residency MFA in Writing program; a five-year combined Bachelor of Arts/Master of Arts in Teaching degree; and a one-year Postbaccalaureate Premedical Program.
